What would you do if you saw someone so sick and throwing up blood? What is your normal reaction? What is the normal human reaction probably?
You will not just stand and stare at the person won't you? Well, that was the scenario last night at Orlando International Airport at the Rental Counter Area. The woman above is Dee and made an incredible act of compassion to a 20 year old girl who is throwing up blood on the tile floor in front of the Enterprise/National counter.
She is a Rental Agent in one of the Rental Car Companies in that area. She was busy processing the customer form but, when her customer said, " I hope that girl is OK." She said , "What girl?" She was shocked that everyone in that lobby ( rental areas are crowded take note) never did anything for that girl. Even the employees didn't call 911! You know why they did not call? The in-charge is on break, that is the answer of the woman in the counter. But, she can use that phone right? Passive reaction! Dee observed that there are many people walked by, looked and stared at the young girl who is in great pain and the people DID NOTHING. Dee ran towards the 20 year old girl and she saw blood all over and immediately called 911. That is a normal mind set of a normal Human behavior, right? She has shown care even to strangers. The counter of DEE is a bit distant from where that girl was but because she cared, she had to do the right thing . THAT ACTION MADE A DIFFERENCE! We should show compassion to a stranger in this kind of situation.
The 20 year old girl has a Crohn's disease. It is a lifelong inflammatory bowel disease. Parts of the digestive system get swollen and have deep sores called ulcers. Crohn’s disease usually is found in the last part of the small intestine and the first part of the large intestine. But it can develop anywhere in the digestive tract. The 20 year old girl has also kidney stones so she was in a lot of pain. Knowing this unbearable pain, Dee added, " It was hard for me to not cry."
You made a good job DEE! You are a hero!

ReplyDeleteCrohn's disease is a very nasty disease and I know it all to well... It is not a curable disease but in some cases it can be controlled yes some cases... My late wife lived with it for a lot of years... She was diagnosed at 12 with colitis and they treated her for it... I Married her when she was 19 yes even knowing that she had heatch problems, it did not matter because I loved her... Later we discovered she had Chron's... Over the years we tried everything but seeing we were ot rich we could only get a certain degree of medical aid for her... She eventually ended up with only 13 inches of her intestines left of about 27 feet... Over all we had to deal with a lot the last few yours of her life.. I wont go into it because it shocks to many people to know the life we had to live and the suffering she had to endure... I applaude your friend for doing the right thing not many people do any more... My late wife had to deal with many situations like that as time passed some people were decient and others acted like they needed to run for their lives simply because they did not understand... I spent 21 years loving and taking care of her with know regrets... So you are right DEE is a HERO, she probably saved the girls life because when it is active it can kill a person very quickly... I am speaking from experience... So I am happy yuo have such a great friend and that there are still people who care...
ReplyDeleteWAAAH.. teary eye na sad me upon reading this entry.. indeed she was a hero for being compassionate to that lady.
ReplyDeleteThere are some cases that people seen this type of scenario but did nothing bec here in America mostly they are afraid of being entangled by law suit.
I remember hubby told me an incident that there was a guy who had an attacked by epilepsy but nobody did touch bec of fear that something may happened to that person, you will be blamed or you'll responsible for it.
Atleast call an ambulance is nothing else... And get the person medical attention... If you do nothing and they die then can you live with yourself knowing you could have atleast called an ambulance and did nothing?? What if it was one of your family members that had the problem and noone even called an ambulance??
ReplyDeletehow would you feel especially if the person died?? Personally If you dont know what to do then no dont jump in and do something that may harm more then help but atleast call for help... My wife colapsed in a hospital restroom and it was the third person that entered that called for help and saved he life... The Other two were afraid they may be accused of something so they just walked out and said nothing... So I believe you can do something which is call for help from the proper people...
