Last October 21, 2008, Coca-Cola Canada announced that Active Halifax Communities is the first community organization in Nova Scotia to host the SOGO Active program. It is a national active living program focusing on Canadian youth. Coca-Cola Canada will award over 1,000 torchbearer spots during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. They will award those teenagers who join the program and demonstrate a commitment to adopt an active lifestyle. Coca Cola Canada will pick 20 of the participants and will be awarded to youth affiliated with Halifax-based Active Halifax Communities. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will touch the soul of the nation and this is what they are hoping to achieved. Using SOGO Active, Coca Cola Canada hoped to use the power of the Olympic Games to inspire the nation to get active. According to Nicola Kettlitz, the General Manager of Olympic Project Team of Coca-Cola Canada, "Youth from Nova Scotia who join the program and make a commitment to active living will have the chance to carry the Olympic Flame." SOGO Active gives young Canadians the tools to design, change & control their own individual and get an active plan. This program is initiated by Coca-Cola Canada and executed by ParticipACTION. They have an intensive consultation from leading Canadian physical activity experts. They also consult teenagers and the vast network of provincial, territorial, aboriginal and community-based organizations. SOGO Active is a $5 million, five-year initiative.
