Cory Aquino (1933 - 2009)

Corazon "Cory"Cojuangco Aquino was born on January 25, 1933 is the Seventh and First Female President of the Republic of the Philippines. She took the Presidency by the Controversial "Power of the People" which ended the 20 years of Marcos Regime.

I remember these moments. The EDSA Revolution and the Peaceful People Power happened in the Philippines 23 years ago and she was the symbol of Freedom. I was in high school when Political Turmoil was felt through out the nation. I remember vividly that since I cannot vote, I ask my mother to vote Cory Aquino as President. In the school, there were prayer rallies and our city joined the People Power Revolution. President Marcos was exciled and President Aquino took the Presidency.

Now, the symbol and heroine of Freedom died at the age of 76 from her Colon Cancer battle. She was born to a wealthy and politically prominent family. Her Educational Background are the following:
  • She enrolled in Ravenhill Academy in Philadelphia.
  • She finished her senior years at Notre Dame College in New York.
  • She entered Mount Saint Vincent College in New York City in 1949 and finished a Bachelor of Arts, major in French.
  • She took up LAW in Far Eastern University in the Philippines but, later married and devoted her life as a HOUSEWIFE and MOTHER.
What a story right? The turn of events happened when her husband, the young Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr was assassinated. A plain housewife became the President of the Philippines during the Snap Election.

A woman worth remembering. A woman worthy of admiration. Rest in Peace Tita Cory.
