When I left my teaching job in the Philippines, I sign pages of papers for my absences. At present, I still have that item. My principal advises me to file a letter of resignation this time. I lack three years to get my GSIS benefit but, I am okay with the proposal. I kept thinking that another life will be change for good if they have that position as permanent. My classroom is well-kept too. Whoever will take over my place, she/he will have a nice classroom complete with video and audio visuals as teaching aides.
On my first day working in that classroom, I was so depressed. The bathroom was used as storage, the window was like a prison cell, dark, no teacher's table and chair. So, I have to sit on one of the pupil's chair. I almost cried because when I was about to leave during dismissal, my co-teacher approached me and took the padlock because it was hers.
I bought a new light fixture for my room, made a PTA project for the teacher's table and chair. I provide a budget to make a grill window. To make the airflow and the room will be conducive to learning. That is the life of a public school teacher in the Philippines. The salary is minimal and yet, we need to spend in order to provide a classroom that can create a good learning ambiance for the children. If you think that I am extra ordinary to do this, not true at all.
Public school teachers do these things. Not known to many, right? Government can't keep up to all the needs of public schools. In my 12 years, not a single black board or children chair. The teacher in charge will really do the initiative to either have a PTA project or spent her/his money for a project.
Anyway, even though I have no job here yet. I am so blessed. I will give up my item and hoping that the right person will take over my classroom and my position.

bigla kaya ako naiyak! all that u said here is true! as in sobrang true, my SIL is a teacher sa public school samen, minsan daw kahit papel at lapis wla mga pupils nia.. i have to bring home scratch papers from here pra minsan may madrawingan mga bata pag art class

how sad for teachers and pupils alike .. over here, the students should considered themselves blessed... so..Amy, u r a teacher? noble profession..

ReplyDeleteI commend you for your dedication Ams, the worse case is when you get assigned in a very remote area where you have to walk far and in the mud just to get through school.. But it is a very rewarding profession...
ReplyDeleteYou should have keep your GSIS sis.. Ako continous pa din payment ko with my SSS and pag ibig kasi we never know diba...
ams u pay for ur GSIS premiums pa din. sayang din. and also ur pag-ibig premiums. its my plan when i get there, too next year even if i will be wtout pay already.
