We went to Saint Augustine, Florida for our Wedding Anniversary celebration this year and we had a blast! I was on the observation deck of Fort Matanzas when I took these pictures. During the Spanish Colonial era, Matanzas Inlet as shown here contributed an important piece of history such as the massacre of French Soldiers in 1565. The Fort Matanzas was build in 1740-1742 to ward off British advances on Saint Augustine. The boat in the picture is the boat that we rode for FREE from the mainland to the Fort. The land shown on the picture below is called Anastasia Island.Anyway, the stone shown here is part of the Fort Matanzas Observation Deck. It is made of Coquina which is a local shellstone. This is a very small place 50 feet on each side with powder magazine room, officer's quarters, soldier's quarters, there is a firearm loopholes and cistern.
Fort Matanzas National Monument has a Nature Trail too but, we did not go there anymore. I would love to visit this place and do the trail. It would be fun and exciting!
